The Butera lab investigates fundamental mechanisms of patterned electrical activity in neural circuits, encompassing mathematical, computational, and experimental studies. Ongoing funded projects include studying how single neuron properties contribute to the synchronization of neural circuits, and the neural basis of breathing. We also have ongoing projects in the development of real-time software for electrophysiological experiments ( and mechanisms of peripheral nerve conduction block by high frequency (5-50 kHz) stimuli. Several of these projects involve the integration of in vitro experiments with real-time computational models.
