Dr. Jenkins studies GABA receptors within the CNS, seeking to understand how neurosteroids, general anesthetics, sedatives, and anxiolytic drugs mediate their effects through interaction with this receptor. This is done by combinations of site-directed mutagenesis, patch clamp electrophysiology, and computation modeling. By doing so, they hope to gain a better understanding of receptor function, both in health and in diseases such as epilepsy, schizophrenia, and autism.
