The Maney lab studies the neuroendocrinology and neurogenetics of behavior. In general, they are interested in how genes, hormones, and the environment interact to induce changes in brain structure and function, emphasizing natural organisms and evolutionary principles. The lab primarily performs work on songbirds, such the northern cardinal or white-throated sparrow, and studies the hormonal modulation of auditory processing, coloration, and social behavior. In addition, the effect of environmental stimulation on reproductive function is examined.
